Special Educational Needs

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

I am very experienced in teaching children with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, processing issues, dyspraxia and sensory processing difficulties. I will tailor a programme to suit an individual student's requirements and design visual timetables and implement sensory plans when required. I have vast amounts of experience on meeting the needs of children who find life in a standard classroom challenging. Simple things such as reducing the visual clutter on a worksheet or allowing someone to chew a piece of gum can make all the difference to their concentration.

I support children and adolescents with special educational needs and learning differences utlising a variety of evidence based techniques and methods. Often my pupils have weak working memories and I teach in a way that accounts for this and enables them to learn key skills despite challenges retaining and applying information. Many students thrive with a “little and often” approach whereby I support them multiple times a week for short sessions either at their schools or on Zoom which allows for regular repetition and revision.

Support for special educational needs and learning differences can occur in multiple contexts that include homeschooling, in school tutoring and after school tutoring.

Some students require homeschooling because mainstream schools have been unable to meet their academic, behavioural and social-emotional needs.

In school tutoring

I support students in their schools with weekly tutoring sessions during school hours however many students do best with a “little and often” approach whereby I support them multiple times a week for short sessions either at their schools or Zoom.

Afterschool tutoring

Students come to my house or we meet on Zoom for weekly or regular sessions.

The highlight of my job is when I can see how much a child’s confidence has improved and they have developed a resiliency that wasn’t there before
