Teaching and TUtoring

Jenny is a qualified (USA) and extremely experienced primary school teacher, and can teach child any primary school topic including English, maths, science, history and geography. She teaches home educated children at their homes during the day and tutors children after school at her home in North West London.

3+, 4+, 7+ 11+

Over the past ten years Jenny has supported children with their entrance exam preparation for independent schools. Schools that Jenny’s students have gone on to include, Aldenham, Belmont, Channing, City of London, Francis Holland, Haberdasher’s, Highgate, Mill Hill, Northbridge House, North London Collegiate, Queens College, South Hampstead and UCS.

ColLaborating with schools

Sometimes homeschooling is not an option, but a school is unable to provide for a particular child as well as it would like to. Jenny can support a child with additional needs in their current mainstream or specialist school and can work with schools to flexi-school a child who may spend some time in school and some time being home educated.

Jenny can teach children who work in the entertainment and sporting industries that cannot attend full time school.

Assessment

Parents often want reassurance about how their child is performing academically in comparison to other children their age. Some parents who hope to send their children to selective independent schools or grammar schools want an idea of how well their children will perform on the 4+, 7+ and 11+ entrance exams. An academic assessment will identify strengths and gaps in your child’s learning and includes a written report highlighting areas to focus on as well as recommendations of potentially suitable schools.

Homeschool advisory service

Home educating is a rewarding experience, but it can be daunting. For families who wish to teach their children themselves, HomeSchool UK can help plan curricula, advise on programmes and resources and get you started on your homeschool journey.

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

The majority of the students HomeSchool UK have home educated have left mainstream and specialist schools because the schools have been unable to meet their academic, behavioural and social-emotional needs.

Jenny is very experienced teaching children with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, processing issues, dyspraxia and sensory processing difficulties.

She will tailor a programme to suit an individual student’s requirements and design visual timetables, and sensory plans when required.

Through her work in a previous school, Jenny received vast amounts of training on meeting the needs of children who find life in a standard classroom challenging. Simple things such as allowing someone to chew a piece of gum can make all the difference to their concentration.

Through her Master’s Degree in Literacy Learning and Literacy Difficulties at the prestigious Institute of Education, Jenny studied and wrote papers on dyslexia, phonics, comprehension, hearing difficulties and writing.

She is currently working (part time) towards a Master’s of Education in Autism in Children at the University of Birmingham where she is studying the special educational needs of children with autism and examining the effects on the entire family of having a child with autism.

The highlight of my job is when I can see how much a child’s confidence has improved and they have developed a resiliency that wasn’t there before

REINTEGRATION INTO SCHOOL

Home educating can often be a temporary measure that is put in place while families identify appropriate schools and until a child is confident enough to return to school.

Jenny works with children to keep them in line academically (when appropriate) with the curriculum, but most importantly develops self esteem and resiliency and encourages a growth mindset in order to help her students successfully transition back into a traditional school model.

Although most children enjoy being home educated, families usually prefer to send their children to school for both social and financial reasons and Jenny is able to assist with this process.

PARTNERSHIPS

Jenny often works within multidisciplinary teams to support a child and enjoys working with other professionals.

She has cultivated  a trusted network of clinical child psychologists, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and behavioural therapists as well as additional private tutors and homeschool-teachers she can call upon if necessary.

Jenny also advises other teachers and tutors on the best approaches for supporting children with special educational needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition, Attention Deficit Disorder and dyslexia.
